6.5.2  How to Use Time Signals

Time signals can be used to power specimens during specific program steps only, or to control external
equipment, such as shutting off measuring instruments at the same time testing ends, or lighting up lamps
when monitoring starts.

For an explanation on how to power specimens during programmed operation, se

“How to Power

Specimens” on page 55

.

ONLY use time signal if the driven equipment can be run safely in
the event of chamber trouble and subsequent re-setting.

If trouble occurs - for example - in the chamber’s air circulator, time
signal output is shut OFF and thus the equipment connected to the time
signal connector stops. When the cause of the trouble is cleared
(internal temperature switch resets itself), the time signal is output

automatically even though the chamber remains stopped. This could present problems if
equipment controlled with the time signal, such as a robot, starts up automatically. Be careful in
using the time signals.

Example 1:  Following is an example 5-step program that lights a lamp in steps 2 and 4.

Procedure:

1. Connect the lamp to the time signal terminals as shown below.

To power the lamp (equipment) with less than 2A of power

Be sure to fit the line with a suitable capacity fuse.
