NOTE: Setup according to the table must be done while the Air Cart is stationary. No product
may flow through the pipes while the setup takes place. The above values serve only as a
guideline.
NOTE: During planting/seeding the air pressure will settle at a much higher value, 2-3 kPa
higher than the static setting, which is normal. Whenever this reading starts to climb it is
indicative of product starting to build in the main feeding lines. Blockage is inevitable if operation
continues. Stop planting while allowing the fan to run until all product is drained from the lines.
Adjust the fan speed to increase the static pressure by another 0,5 kPa. Commence planting
and monitor dynamic pressure. If it still creeps up repeat the process by upping the static
pressure by another 0,5 kPa.
SUFFICIENT AIR FLOW TEST
Perform the sufficient air flow test to determine if the airflow is sufficient to carry product through
the network of pipes to the row units:
1. Set the hopper fan according to the required application rate and plant at least 100 m at
maximum planting speed.
2. Stop and lift the planter. Monitor the time it takes for the system to clear excess product
through the pipes.
3.
Normally, the system needs 3-5 seconds to clear the lines of product. If it takes longer,
it is a sign that product had gathered in the pipes. Blockages are inevitable given enough
time.
4.
Increase the fan speed in order to increase the air pressure reading by 0.5 kPa.
5.
Repeat the test to check if air flow is sufficient.
NOTE: It is not recommended that the air pressure be set unnecessarily high. Wear on the
pipes will be dramatically increased and their life span will be reduced.
NOTE:
The air pressure reading rises once the seeding implement starts working. Once the
product enters the airstream the back pressure increases in the system, which means that more
energy is needed to distribute the product. This new pressure reading will stagnate as long as
the application rate (kg / ha) remains constant. Monitor this pressure for any deviations. A higher
pressure may be an indication of a blockage, a lower pressure reading may be an indication
that the application amount has decreased. (A bin is possibly empty or a metering unit roller is
stationary).
