SI-Safety module response times
5.1
SI-Safety module response times
Response time is an important technical safety property and needs to be taken into
account with every application / application based or applied safety function.
This chapter details the response times for individual functions in relation to other
parameters. In cases where quoting these details is not sufficient for a specific
application, specific measurements need to be made to validate the actual time
characteristics are acceptable within nominal characteristics. This is especially true in
respect of the use of filter functions.
The response times must be defined in the nominal characteristics for each applicable
safety function and must then be compared against the actual value with the help of the
following details.
•
Particular caution is advisable when using filter functions. Depending on filter length
and time, the response time can be extended substantially and this fact should
always be taken into consideration when configuring the technical safety functions.
•
With particularly critical task profiles, the time characteristics need to be validated
by means of measurements.
•
During start up, all inputs and outputs remain disabled until the start up tests have
been (successfully) passed. Errors and faults at the inputs will be checked after
start up, so the device will go to alarm or error state after a short delay.
5.2
Response times for response in standard operating mode
The basis for calculating response times is the cycle time of the SI-Safety module
system. During operation, this equates to T_cycle = 8 ms. The response times indicated
equate to the maximum run time for any specific application within the SI-Safety
module. In order to obtain the total application run time, all application dependent
response times of one safety function loop need to be summed.
