Connectrix Manager Administration

Backing Up and Restoring Connectrix Manager Data

The backup and restore of critical Connectrix Manager data on a 
Windows NT system is provided by the Iomega® QuikSync™ 
application, which is installed on the Connectrix service processor 
when you install the product. 

Backup

During installation, QuikSync is automatically configured to mirror 
the contents of the EfcData directory to the attached Zip

®

 drive any 

time the contents of that directory change. Therefore, whenever you 
make a configuration change, add or remove a managed product, or 
make any other changes through the Connectrix Manager, data is 
automatically backed up. The existing backup file is updated; no 
separate versions of the backup file are maintained.

To ensure trouble-free backups, it is imperative that you leave the Zip drive 
connected to the Connectrix service processor and leave a Zip disk in that 
drive.

QuikSync starts automatically after the Windows NT login, and 
automatically mirrors any changes made to the EfcData directory. 
QuikSync can also be accessed through the Windows Start menu for 
manual backup.

The backed up data includes: 

•

All Connectrix Manager configuration (product definitions, user 
names, encrypted passwords, user rights, nicknames, session 
options, SNMP configuration, E-mail, etc.)

•

Logs, both from the Connectrix Manager and the Product 
Manager

•

Zoning library, including all zone sets and zone definitions

•

Firmware library

•

Call-home configuration information

Since the configuration data for each individual product is stored in 
NV-RAM on the product itself, the Product Manager has a backup 
option to save the product configuration to the Connectrix service 
processor. When performing the QuikSync backup operation, the 
product configuration data is included in the backed up data.
