Setting Up and Starting a CX700 System
Power
To determine a CX700’s power requirements, use the power rating on
the enclosure label. This rating is the maximum power required for a
fully loaded enclosure. The input current, power (VA), and
dissipation for the CX700 are based on the maximum capability of the
power supplies and cooling system to provide internally regulated
power. Typical values will be less, depending on the number and
manufacturer of disk drives, as well as other factors.
These values represent the sum of the values shared by the line cords
of two power supplies in the same CX700 SPE. Power cords and
supplies share the power load evenly. If one of the two power
supplies fails, the remaining supply and cord support the full load.
You must use a rackmount cabinet or other mounting standard, with
appropriate power distribution, and have main branch ac or dc
distribution that can handle these values for the number of
components that you will interconnect.
The standard 40U EMC cabinet includes two 240-volt ac power cables and
independent power distribution units (PDUs) and power distribution panels
(PDPs). To support all of the CX700 system’s high-availability features, you
must connect each power outlet to a different circuit.
Storage systems with -48 V dc power supplies also require separate circuits
for each supply to maintain high availability.
Cooling
The temperature at the front bezel inlet must meet the ambient
temperature specification described in Appendix A. The site must
have air conditioning that can maintain the specified ambient
temperature range. The air conditioning must be able to support the
BTU requirements of the CX700 SPE, a DAE, and any additional disk
enclosures.
Cabling Requirements
Use SFF Fibre Channel optical cables for CX700 connections to the
external Fibre Channel environment — either to a switch or host bus
adapter (HBA) in a server.
Use HSSDC shielded Fibre Channel copper cables to connect a CX700
to a DAE2; DAE2P cables require at least one HSSDC2 connector.
Any copper cables you use must meet the appropriate standards for
2-Gbit FC-AL. Such cables are fully shielded, twin-axial, full-duplex
cables with high speed serial data connector (HSSDC/HSSDC2)
connectors. Distances greater than 1 meter require equalized cables;
