1.8 Motor circuit breaker
To prevent inadmissible heat-up from overload, each motor
shall be protected by an ATEX-compatible monitoring device
or motor overload switch. Overload protectors with cut-out
delay depending on the current shall be installed to monitor
the rated current consumption in all conductors and shall be
able to switch off the blocked motor within the heat-up time
t
E
.
To ensure this, the trip time of the monitoring device needs to
be shorter for the start-up current ratio I
A
/I
N
than the heat-up
time t
E
for the respective temperature class.
The trip time, starting from cold state at an ambient tempera-
ture of +20 °C, is shown in the trip characteristic curve of the
monitoring device. The heat-up time values tE for the indi-
vidual temperature classes as well as the start-up current
ratio I
A
/I
N
are indicated on the nameplate of the motor or an
additional label.
On ATEX units with EExe motor, the thermal motor circuit-
breaker with PTC-resistor sensors for direct temperature
monitoring is permissible only in addition to the overload pro-
tection (upon request).
When using units for FC operation with an EEx de motor, it
is also essential to observe the information under 3.3.1. to
3.3.4.
1.9 Noise emission
The noise generated by a blower is not constant throughout
the performance range. For details of noise emission levels,
please refer to the table on page 21.
In some cases, sound insulation may be necessary (it is rec-
ommended that emission levels be measured by the opera-
tor). Sound insulation must be provided by the operator to
avoid exceeding the statutory maximum levels at the work-
place and in the immediate vicinity of the blower.
Acoustic insulation of any type must never result in an in-
crease in the risk of explosion and you have to ensure,
e.g. that the maximum permissible ambient temperature of
+40 °C (blower) is not exceeded.
1.10 Obligations of the owner
The owner of an installation or machine is required to oper-
ate the equipment in accordance with EC directive 99/92/EC
(ATEX 137) and the applicable national regulations enforcing
the directive; for example, the directive requires that the risks
etc. be described in an explosion protection document.
The measures to be taken in the case of an ignition/ex-
plosion or any other serious incident are as follows:
If a
fi
re, de
fl
agration or explosion has occurred
in the vicinity of or inside the unit, then the unit
must not be operated further regardless of the
cause of the explosion. In this case, as in the
event of other serious incidents, the equipment
must be made accessible / sent to Elektror for im-
mediate examination.
2 INFORMATION ON TRANSPORTA-
TION AND HANDLING OF THE MACHINE
2.1 Transportation and handling
• Prior to installation and putting into service, check all parts
for transit damage. A damaged blower is a potential safety
hazard and, therefore, should not be put into service.
• Do not store the blower unprotected in the open
(protect against moisture).
• Attach hoist securely. Only use hoists and load suspensi-
on devices with suf
fi
cient load-carrying capacity. Secure
the route of transportation.
3 INFORMATION ON COMMISSIONING
THE MACHINE
3.1 Basic information
• Prior to the
fi
rst start-up and before any other start-up, the
proper operating status of the unit must be inspected.
Units that, for example, are found to be defective upon
delivery or during installation must not be operated.
• Set-up, installation, operation and maintenance must only
be performed by properly trained and quali
fi
ed specialists.
Operation following incorrect installation, maintenance or
unapproved replacement of components constitutes non-
designated use and renders the warranty void. The resul-
tant risk shall be borne solely by the customer or owner.
Note!
Reliable protection against incursion by foreign
matter, rust, airborne rust and other iron oxides is
provided.
3.2 Installation and assembly
• Install blower such that it is protected against the weather.
Refer also to the information on installation under 1.1,
Designated use.
• During set-up, installation and subsequent operation,
never expose the equipment to vibratory or impact loads.
Permissible vibrational load on blower: refer to ISO 14694,
BV-3.
• Standard blowers with base:
Bolt securely to a level and
fi
rm surface at the place
of use, making sure that the surface has adequate load-
bearing capacity and avoiding vibration transmission or
vibrational load.
• Standard blowers without base:
Bolt securely to a
fi
rm surface at the place of use, making
sure the surface has adequate load-bearing capacity and
avoiding vibration transmission or vibrational load. This
type of installation can be used for RD blowers with an
intake and/or a discharge side connection up to type:
Maximum up to RD 5-ATEX.
• Cover the open intake and/or a discharge side connection
with wire guards compliant with DIN EN ISO 13857.
• Ensure adequate motor ventilation.
• Permissible ambient temperatures:
See 1.1 – Designated use.
• Special information for units suitable for, or even
designated for, FC operation: See 3.3.1 to 3.3.4.
3.3 Electrical connection
Note!
The work described in this section may only be
performed by a quali
fi
ed electrician. The dimen-
sioning and selection of connecting lines, includ-
ing the connection of the motor, must be made
according to the circuit diagram in the junction
box and the relevant local regulations.
• Design of the electrical installations in accordance
with EN 60079-14.
• Complete equipotential bonding must be achieved; i.e.
suf
fi
cient and proper earthing of all electrically conducting
parts.
• Check that the mains voltage matches the speci
fi
cation
on the nameplate.
• The drive motors used are exclusively explosion-protected
three-phase current motors.
