maximise the durability and lifetime of the battery
module. Although the battery module can be
charged several hundred times, there will come a
time when its capacity deteriorates.
When it becomes noticeable that the intervals
between charging are decreasing significantly,
then a new Ex-battery module should be used.
13.4 Safety instructions for the Ex-bat-
tery module type Ex-AMH 04.
Batteries and chargers that become damaged or
are suspected of being faulty should be taken
out of service and returned to the manufacturer
for checking.If there is any reason to suspect
that the safety of the unit has been affected then
it must be immediately withdrawn from use and
precautionary measures taken in order to pre-
vent any further use of in the Ex-hazardous area.
C a u t i o n !
•Extreme temperatures can have an adverse
effect on the charging of an Ex-AMH 04 Ex-bat-
tery module.
•Never dispose Ex-AMH 04 Ex-battery modules
in a fire!
•Never short-circuit the Ex-AMH 04 Ex-battery
module.
•Dispose any used or damaged Ex-AMH 04 Ex
battery modules in accor dance with local regu-
lations (e.g. recycling).
•Never dispose batteries into domestic refuse.

13. Battery
13.1 Battery change
The Ex-battery module type Ex-AMH 04 for the
Handy 04 may only be changed outside of the
Ex-hazardous area. Only battery modules appro-
ved by the manufacturer may be used.
Please note that the use of any other type of bat-
teries is strictly forbidden in that it will invalidate
the Ex-data certification and poses a serious risk
to safety.
It is not permitted to take spare battery modules
into the Ex-hazardous area.
13.2 Charging
The Ex-battery module type Ex-AMH 04 for the
Handy 04 may only be charged outside of the
Ex-hazardous area. After disconnecting the char-
ger from the mobile phone or removing the bat-
tery from the charging cradle,
a rest period of a
minimum of 3 minutes must be observed
before the mobile phone unit is again allo-
wed to enter the Ex-hazardous area.
Please note that only those battery chargers
which have been approved by the manufacturer
may be used.
13.3 General instructions
When first using, it is recommended that the
Ex-AMH 04 battery module is charged and dis-
charged two or three times in order to attain full
and optimum power.
When the battery module is fully charged, the
charger should be detached from the mobile
phone or the battery module/mobile phone unit
removed from the charging cradle in order to
