magnetic fields (radio frquencies) specified by
the Commission of the European Union responsi-
ble. These boundary values are part of a com-
prehensive recommendation which lays down the
strength of electromagnetic fields in radio free-
quencies which can be tolerated by the general
population.
This recommendation was developed by inde-
pendent scientific institutes after regular and tho-
rough evaluation of scientific studies. These limi-
ting values include a generous margin of safety
so that a health danger to all persons indepen-
dent of age and general state of health can be
disregarded. The standards for the generation of
electromagnetic fields by mobile telephones are
based on a measurement unit known as the SAR
(Specific Absorption Rate).
The value laid down by the European Union
Commission amounts to 2.0 W/kg.*
SAR-Tests are carried out on the basis of the
standard operating position whereby the telepho-
ne is operated with the maximum allowable
transmitter power in all frequency bands tested.
Although the SAR was measured at the maximum
allowable transmitter power, the actual SAR
values when using the telephone can lie well
below the maximum values. The is because the
telephone was intentionally designed to work
with varying transmitter power – only enough
power is used to gain access to the network.
In general, the transmitter power needed is inver-
sely proportional to the distance from the net-
work repeater station.
Before a model of telephone can be
released for sale, the manufacturer must prove

Procedure in the event of an emergency call:
1. Switch the telephone on if it is not already switched on
Check whether the signal strength is adequate. In certain
networks it may be necessary to plug a valid SIM card
into the telephone.
2. Press the red off / END key as many times as is neces-
sary (e.g. to end call or quit a menu etc.) to erase the
display and prepare the mobile telephone for making a
call.
3. Enter the emergency number (e.g. 999 / 112 or some
other official emergencynumber) which is valid for your
current location. The emergency numbers vary from
place to place.
4. Press the green call / SEND key.
