5.6 Gas Cooler Outlet Temperature Regulation
The cooling of the refrigerant is performed in the gas cooler using the gas cooler fans. However, in transcritical
operation of the system outside the wet vapour range, there is no direct relationship between the condensation
temperature tc and the high pressure pc. Therefore the high pressure and the gas cooler outlet temperature,
i.e. the temperature of the hot gas, are measured and regulated independently of each other. The regulation of
the high pressure (see chapter
) is performed using a continuous HP valve. The gas
cooler outlet temperature is regulated using the gas cooler fans. The following types of control are provided for
the gas cooler fan control:
Step controller
Regulation using enable and disable of gas cooler capacity stages.
Speed controller
Regulation using speed controller (continuous control). The gas cooler temperature is controlled here using
an analogue signal that specifies the required speed to the speed controller. The fans are all permanently
connected in parallel to the speed controller.
Parallel combined control
Regulation using speed controller (continuous control). The gas cooler temperature is controlled here using
an analogue signal that specifies the required speed to the speed controller. The fans are all connected in
parallel to the speed controller, however they can be loaded or unloaded individually.
Stages combined control
Combination of step controller and continuous control. The gas cooler temperature here is controlled by
enabling or disabling fixed-speed fans and using a speed-controlled fan.
The type of control can be set using the system centre, the operator terminal or the LDSWin PC software.

The gas cooler can be controlled either:
via Modbus - requires gas cooler package with ebm-papst fans (
Gaskühlerpaket mit ebm-papst Lüftern
via relay outputs - requires an external SIOX128 module (

5.6.1 Gas cooler control via relay outputs
Requirements for the VS 3015 CT for control of the gas cooler fans via the relay outputs:
DIP switch 4 must be configured to OFF
an external SIOX128 must be connected and configured (DIP switch 2 set to ON)
a MR-AO4 module must be connected (for regulation with a frequency converter), see
of the Modbus analogue module 0..10 V DC
a maximum of 4 stages can be controlled. These are output at the 4 fan relays of the external SIOX128.
A maximum of 3 fans is possible for the "combined control" types of control.
5.6.2 Gas cooler package with ebm-papst fans
