Utility button

The

Utility

navigation button opens the Utility window. This screen reveals additional tabs that aid in the

operation of the console: Talkback, Monitors, Tone Gen, SPL Meter, User Banks, Mute Groups, Banks, User

Keys, and Meters.

12.9.1

Talkback Tab

The talkback Mic Gain control is physically located in the Engineer’s Toolbox section of the console (see Sec-

tion 6.5).

The

Talkback

tab serves two inputs: the local talkback mic input and the external talkback input, both

located on the rear panel. Two buttons, located at the top of the screen, select between the local talkback

mic and the external talkback input. The destinations for these two sources are completely independent and

these buttons have no effect on whether either source is live or not.

The

Talkback

tab screen allows independently routing either talkback signal to any of Aux/Groups 1-24,

Matrix 1-8, and the left, right, mono/center. Four master control buttons (L-R-C/M, Matrix, Auxes, Groups) are

also located in the console’s communications area. These master buttons, also duplicated in the on-screen

GUI, enable or disable all corresponding outputs as selected in the setup screen. The

Talkback Latch ON

button makes the talkback button latch (alternate on/off) for each press. If this button isn’t engaged, then

the talkback button’s action is momentary, meaning talkback is only on as long as you hold it down. When

the

Push to Talk

button is engaged, the monitor and phone signals are dimmed (lowered in level).

The talkback button does not need to be pressed to enable the external Talkback signal. It passes signal to

the its assigned outputs at all times. Like the local talkback, external talkback can be routed to any hardware

output. In addition, it can be sent to the engineer’s monitor system. You can use this feature to allow your

counterpart engineer to talk to you.
