Operating Conditions over Temperature for 24-Volt Systems
•
For vehicles required to meet United States of America Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations, the
following shall apply: The OEM shall comply with vehicle wire installation and over current protection per Federal Motor
Carrier Safety Administration Regulations Sections 393.27 Wiring specifications; 393.28 Wiring to be protected; 393.29
Grounds; 393.31 Overload protective devices; and 393.33 Wiring, installation.
•
The fusing device for the TCM branch of Battery Positive Vehicle Power shall be identified at the termination.
•
The fusing device for the TCM branch of Switched Ignition power shall be identified at the termination.
•
The fusing device for the ECA branch of Battery Positive Vehicle Power shall be identified at the termination.
•
The vehicle power system shall be designed to support the following operating current characteristics for the TCM:
-
Active Shifting Current: 30 amps
-
Maintaining current gear: 6 to 15 amps
-
Power down sequence: 6 to 30 amps
•
The vehicle power system shall be designed to support the following operating current characteristics for the ECA:
Peak Vehicle Power to the ECA: 30 amps for 200 ms.
•
The fusing device for the TCM Vehicle Power shall have a nominal break current of 30 A or greater.
*
•
Recommend use of 30 Amp Fuse (ATO or equivalent) for the TCM connection to Vehicle Power.
•
The fusing device for the TCM Vehicle Power shall be dedicated to the TCM Vehicle Power interface.
•
The fusing device for the ECA Vehicle Power shall have a nominal break current of 40 A or greater.
*
•
Recommend use of 40 Amp Fuse (ATO or equivalent) for the ECA connection to Vehicle Power.
•
The fusing device for the ECA Vehicle Power shall be dedicated to the ECA Vehicle Power interface.
•
The fusing device for TCM Switched Ignition shall have a nominal break current of 10 A or greater.
*
•
Recommend use of 10 Amp Fuse (ATO or equivalent) for Switched Ignition power to the TCM.
•
The fusing device for TCM Switched Ignition shall be dedicated to the TCM Switch Ignition.
•
The fusing devices for TCM Vehicle Power, ECA Vehicle Power, and TCM Switch Ignition shall not be self-resetting.
•
The fusing devices shall be protected against the environment to prevent loss of function due to environmental factors
including vibration and corrosion.
•
Recommend environmentally sealed fuse block for ECU and ECA fuses. If in-line fuse holders are used, locate away
from battery box and road splash; and that fuse holder be mechanically mounted in an orientation to best prevent water
ingress into fuse holder.
*
A properly sized fusing device for distribution of power to sub-circuits such as TCM Vehicle Power, ECA Vehicle Power,
and TCM Switched Ignition may be used.
