Connecting a PXG600E to the Ethernet LAN
NOTICE: “Upstream” and “Downstream” in this discussion refers
to the way devices are connected to the Ethernet LAN and does
NOT have anything to do with devices that are connected
“downstream” to the PXG600E via the serial Modbus or INCOM
networks.
Two 10/100 Base T, RJ-45 connectors are provided on each PXG600E. One is
labeled “Upstream”
(Figure 4, A)
and the other is labeled “Downstream”
(Figure 4, B)
.
These ports have Auto Negotiation capability and are capable
of Dual Speed Switching. In addition, they also support Auto-MIDX.
Figure 4
shows a typical Ethernet LAN configuration using four PXG-E
gateways and one IQ 250 meter connected to an Ethernet switch. The
Ethernet ports on PXG-E number 3 and 4 are connected together using a
daisy-chain approach. In this example the “Downstream” Ethernet LAN port
of PXGE number 3 is connected to the “Upstream” Ethernet LAN port of
PXGE number 4.
Rules for connecting a PXG600E to the Ethernet LAN:
•
If the PXG600E is connected directly to the Local Area Network use the
“Upstream” Ethernet LAN port.
•
If two or more PXG-E gateways are daisy-chained, the upstream port on
the PXG-E should always be connected in the direction of the Local Area
Network.
•
The total length of any Ethernet cable run must not exceed
295.3 ft (90 m).
•
If control power is lost to any of the devices on the Ethernet LAN daisy-
chain, the Ethernet LAN connection to all of the devices on the daisy-
chain will be lost.
