4.7.2 Load Consumables
The consumables are loaded in the five trays on the right side of the instrument. Up to four
consumable drawer items can be loaded on to the drawers. Each Item on the drawer when
loaded needs to be a full unused item.
If only sample tips are needed for the worklist(s) it is recommended that each worklist should
begin with a full complement of consumables. If the worklist(s) need deep wells, it is
recommended to let the system prompt for the locations where the various consumables must
be loaded. If the consumables are not in these locations as the worklist later needs them, an
error will occur and the user prompted to load the correct consumable. When the worklist(s)
are finished, the system should be shut down via the end-of-day routine, the necessary
consumable tray(s) slid out and loaded with racks for the next worklist to be prepared for the
system when it is restarted. Deep well strips are not tracked nor inventoried. So all deep well
strips loaded into racks are assumed to be unused.
Partially used Sample Racks
Any partially consumed sample racks may be pre-loaded in drawer 1 in positions 1 and 2.
That is they may be inserted such that the system scans this drawer for the consumables
before a worklist is submitted for scheduling.
The lights adjacent to each tray signify the following:
White Light - Drawer position is empty a drawer with new items may be loaded in that
position
Orange Light - Drawer has been recognised as loaded by the system but pending an item
scan to read bar-codes and identify items.
Blue Light - Items on Drawer have been scanned and recognized and drawer has been
locked (in use)
Flashing Blue Light - All items on Drawer have been used and the system has unlocked
drawer for user removal.
The following items are loaded as required:
Sample Tip Racks (112 tips) - Barcoded racks with Lot number and unique number in
barcode. The software tracks rack usage and would prevent refilling of used rack.
Deep Well Holder - White barcoded holder that holds 12x 8-well deep well strips. When
filling a holder 12 unused strips should always be loaded.
Mixing Well Holder - Blue barcoded holder that holds 6 x 3-mixing wells. When filling
holder 18 unused mixing wells should always be loaded. Mixing wells are used when
reagents are normally shipped as 2 parts that need to be mixed prior to use because of
fluid stability.
To load consumables:
1.
Open any consumables drawer that presents a pulsing blue indicator. The drawer
indicator will turn white.
