Installation/Operating Instructions
Envoy Electric Projection Screen by Draper
Hanging Screen
General:
When locating viewing surface and checking clearance for screen’s op er a tion,
remember surface is centered in case. Screen is normally recessed above
ceil ing and may be installed in a varie ty of ways. See typical in stal la tion
detailed on back of this sheet. Re gard less of mounting method used, the
following points apply:
➀
Screen should be positively and securely sup port ed so that vibration or
even abusive pulling on viewing surface will not weaken in stal la tion.
➁
Installer must insure that fasteners used are of adequate strength and
suitable for the mounting surface chosen.
➂
Entire bottom of case must be readily accessible after installation is
complete.
➃
Hinge on bottom board and particularly hinge on automatic trap door of
screen must be per mit ted to operate freely. Front and back of case must
be straight—not forced to warp or bow. Hinges must be free from mas tic or
paint buildup, and doors must be un ob struct ed by ceiling tiles.
➄
Do not use screen case to support adjacent sections of ceiling.
➅
If trim pieces must be attached to case, do not permit screws to pro trude
through ¾" wall of case. Do not attach trim with nails.
➆
If case is painted, slots around doors should be shielded to protect view ing
surface from paint splatters or overspray.
➇
Do not seal unit in ceiling unit electrical connections have been made and
screen has been operated successfully.
Caution
➀
Read instructions through completely before proceeding.
➁
Follow instructions carefully. Installation con trary to instructions
invalidates
warranty.
➂
Entire bottom of screen case should be un ob struct ed to permit prop er
operation of automatic trap door, and access to bottom panel for mak ing
electrical connections or servicing.
➃
Screen should be installed level (using a carpenter’s level).
➄
Nothing should be fastened to screen dowel, viewing surface or
auto
matic trap door.
➅
Operating switch(es) packed separately in screen carton. Do not dis card
with packing material.
➆
Screen operates on 110-120V, 60 hz. current.
NOTE
: Screen has been thoroughly inspected and tested at factory and
found to be operating properly prior to shipment.
Electrical Connections
Screen operates on 110-120V, 60 hz. current.
Junction box is located just above bottom board near left end of screen.
Bot tom board is held closed with fl athead screws and may be opened with
a Phillips screwdriver. (Automatic trap door is held shut by view ing sur face
and must not be forced open.) Re mov al of junc tion box cover plate ex poses
red, black and white pigtail leads and green in ter nal ground wire per wiring
di a gram attached.
Screen is shipped with internal wiring complete and control switch(es) fully
boxed. Wire connecting screen to switch(es) and switch(es) to power supply
should be furnished by installer. Connections should be made in accordance
with attached wiring diagram, and wiring should comply with National and
local electrical codes.
All operating switches should be “off” before power is connected.
Operation
When screen is fi rst operated, be cautious! If automatic trap door does not
drop open im me di ate ly when switch is fl ipped “down”, re turn switch to “off”
and free trap door and/or recheck elec tri cal con nec tions before proceeding.
Cycle unit down and up several times to confi rm sat is fac to ry operation.
110-120V Single Station Control —
3-position up-off-down switch per mits
operation to be stopped at any point. Factory adjusted limit switch es
automatically stop screen when fully down or fully up.
110-120V Multiple Station Control
—Switches are similar in ap pear ance
to 110-120v Single Station Control. Screen stops when switch is re leased
and may be re start ed in either direction. Factory adjusted limit switch es stop
screen automatically when fully up or fully down.
24V Control —
Three-button up-stop-down switch es stop at any point
desired, operate in any sequence. Factory adjusted limit switches
au to mat i cal ly stop screen when fully up or fully down.
Key Operated Switching —
Two kinds of key-operated switches are
op tion al ly available with this unit.
➀
The key-operated power sup ply switch
controls power to the screen and switches. When it is “off”, the switches will
not operate screen. Key may be removed from the switch in either “on” or
“off” position.
➁
A three-po si tion key switch per mits the screen to be operated
directly by key. In this case, the screen’s operator must always have a key.
RS232/Ethernet—
Serial communication and network communication
optionally available with wall switches, RF or IR remote.
Adjustments
Screen has been factory set and should not nor mal ly require further
ad just ment. However, if you desire to change the “up” and “down” stop ping
positions, proceed as follows:
CAUTION:
Be sure all switches are in “off” position before ad just ing limit
switches. Always be pre pared to shut screen off man u al ly when new
ad just ment is being tested. Screen may be se vere ly dam aged if viewing
surface is al lowed to run too far up or too far down.
Adjusting “fully up” position —
“Up” limit switch, located im me di ate ly
above left end of automatic trap door, is tripped as door closes. If door does
not close fully, limit switch should be raised slightly. If door closes too tightly,
switch should be lowered slightly.
Remove steel plate attached to threaded neck of “up” limit switch by re mov ing
hex nut securing it. Removing plate exposes three Phillips head ma chine
screws which hold limit switch bracket in place. Turn ing these screws
clockwise will raise limit switch; turning them coun ter clock wise will lower it.
Raise switch only in quarter-turn increments. When operating prop er ly
automatic trap door should close gently and rest against but not press on
rubber bumpers above it. Adjusting automatic door so that it closes too tightly
will damage screen.
Adjusting “fully down” position —
“Down” stopping position may be
adjusted by turning the white limit switch adjustment socket. The white socket
is lo cat ed on the left end of screen roller and is accessible to a screw driv er/
Allen wrench (4mm or

") when automatic trap door is open. Access is
easier when bot tom board is also open. (Do not adjust the yellow socket
which is next to and in back of the white socket). Turn ing the white socket
coun ter clock wise will allow viewing sur face to run farther down. Turning it
clock wise will short en the view ing surface, stop ping it in a less extended
po si tion. At no time should view ing surface be un rolled enough to expose any
part of screen roller.
