● To return to normal camera operation, briefly press the ON/OFF
button.
The thermal image will be immediately displayed on the screen.
The LED on the ON/OFF button will turn off indicating that stand-
by mode is deactivated.
Operating modes
The thermal imaging camera has two operating modes: normal mode
and firefighting mode. When the camera is in the firefighting mode,
the firefighting mode indicator (see figure B on page 3 and “What is
What” on page 8) is shown on the display.
The camera automatically selects the appropriate operating mode
depending on the temperature of the objects the user is looking at.
Normal mode is used for scenes with object temperatures up to
approx. 266
o
F (130
o
C). The thermal imaging camera switches to
firefighting mode when the temperature of more than approx. 10 % of
the objects in the scene is higher than approx. 266
o
F (130
o
C).
Normal mode
In normal mode, the user can select between several color palettes.
The color palette indicator (16) shows which color palette is currently
activated. The default color palette is "TempColor" (shown as CP 01
on the display). When this color palette is selected, all objects above
approx. 230
o
F (110
o
C) are displayed in yellow, orange and red, with
red corresponding to the highest temperature. All objects below
approx. 230
o
F (110
o
C) are shown in grayscale where black
corresponds to cold objects, whereas white corresponds to hot
objects. All objects below approx. 32

C) are shown in blue.
Firefighting mode
In firefighting mode, the dynamic range of the thermal imaging
camera is set to maximum. The scene will always be displayed using
the "TempColor" palette. The color scale stretches from grayscale
(black to white) via yellow and orange up to red, with red
corresponding to the highest temperature. All objects above approx.

C) are shown in yellow.
When the temperature of the indicated scene drops again and the
majority of the objects in the scene is below approx. 266
o
F (130
o
C),
the camera will switch back to normal mode. The scene will be
indicated using the set color palette again.
Activating the zoom function
When the thermal imaging camera is switched on, you can activate
the digital zoom function as follows:

To set a twofold digital zoom, press the MODE button for less than
1.5 seconds.
A magnifying glass will be indicated on the screen.

To quit the zoom setting, press the MODE button again for less
than 1.5 seconds.
The picture will no longer be enlarged and the magnifying glass
will disappear from the screen.
Activating the color palettes in normal mode
In normal mode (the camera is not in stand-by mode and
ThermalScan is not active), the scenes can be displayed in different
color palettes. The color palette indicator (16) indicates which color
palette is currently activated by showing CP 01, CP 02...CP 06.
The thermal imaging camera offers "TempColor" (CP 01),
"Autumn" (CP 02), "Black Yellow" (CP 03), "Yellow" (CP 04),
"Gray Scale White Hot" (CP 05), and "Gray Scale Black Hot" (CP 06)
(see also page 374).
The color palette can be used to optimize the thermal image in normal
mode operations (e.g. "Autumn" for surveillance operations, "Black
Yellow" for inspection of electrical installations, "Gray Scale Black
Hot" for search and rescue tasks in cold temperatures).
