Chapter 2 – Safety Instructions
2.1 General Precautions
These safety instructions comply with the European Union Declaration of Conformity. To prevent possible
serious injury, it is extremely important that you understand and follow these safety precautions:
•
Before installing and first operating the machine, this manual must be read and understood.
Operators must understand the meaning of the safety symbols described in this chapter.
•
This machine must be installed securely and permanently attached to a solid surface before
starting and operating.
•
This machine must be operated only by trained personnel. Training must be repeated at
regular intervals.
•
Safety devices must be checked each day to ensure proper operation. Safety features should
be examined once each year by experts.
•
Do not operate the machine unless the safety circuit is operating correctly. The safety circuit
stops the machine immediately upon the opening of the guards.
•
Locate and identify the Emergency Stop (E-Stop) buttons on the operator interface and on
the remote interface panel. Press either E-Stop button to immediately stop the machine.
•
Stop the machine to correct malfunctions by pressing either of the E-Stop buttons. Correct
and clear obstructions or malfunctions before restarting. Do not try to operate the machine by
continuing to reset. Stop the machine, identify the problem, and correct it. Immediately report
all malfunctions to the person in charge.
•
Do not modify, remove, discard, disable or bypass guards or safety circuits.
•
All guards, protective covers and shields must be in place before operating the machine. Do
not modify, remove, disable or bypass the guards. Operating this machine with guards,
covers or shields removed could result in serious injury.
•
Prior to operating the clipper, to ensure both personnel and product safety, carefully inspect
the die support channel and punch assembly, the die and die pocket area of the die support,
the clip pusher assembly and the knife assembly.
•
Keep hands and fingers clear of the, punch, die, knife, gates, voider, skin brake and looper
areas at all times. Never touch these areas while the machine is in operation. Do not allow
fingers, hands, jewelry or clothes around moving parts during operation of this machine.
•
Before servicing or cleaning this machine, disconnect the air and electrical supply lines. Be
aware of the danger of electrical shock. Install lockout devices on the red electrical and
pneumatic lock-out handles when maintenance or repair requires removal of a guard.
•
When this machine is not in operation, disconnect the air supply at the quick-disconnect.
Failure to disconnect the air supply creates serious risk of injury. To prevent unauthorized
personnel from operating the machine, secure the lock-out valve with a padlock.
•
Pay particular attention to the loud sound levels produced by this machine. If applicable, use
ear protection. Note: the results of the noise tests can be found in Appendix 1.
•
When moving the machine, keep hands and fingers clear of punch, die and knife areas.
•
Use only original spare parts and accessories.
•
If the machine is sold, the manual must be supplied to the new owner.
