PRINTER INTERNAL ADJUSTMENTS
Macrojet 2 has a number of internal switches and links which must be
checked before switching on. Fitting some ancilliaries could also include
making connections. These should be carried out by personnel with
electronic equipment training.
To gain access to the cabinet, remove the four screws (one each side and
two on the rear panel) and remove the cover (
see page 2-11
). The cover
has an earth (ground) connection. If this is disconnected, it must be refitted
before replacing the cover.
Printed circuit boards (PCB's) are removed from their slots by grasping the
handle at the top and pulling carefully (
see page 4-30)
. When replacing a
PCB, ensure that it is the right way round and in the correct slot (
see page
) before pushing it home.
Preparing the Serial Interface PCB
The Universal Serial Interface PCB has a number of links and switches
which must be set according to the printer system. These are given in Part
3: Replacing the Universal Serial Interface PCB.
Note:
When replacing the Universal Serial Interface PCB, the
connection for the width control must be reconnected with the
grey wire nearest the handle.
Preparing the Motherboard
The motherboard has Aspect Ratio switches which are set up when the
print heads are fitted to the printer, normally in the factory. They should be
checked to ensure that they have not been disturbed, or set up if print
heads are being changed or fitted (
).
External alarm wiring is brought into the cabinet through a cable gland and
connected directly to the motherboard -
see also page 2-22
Aspect Ratio
The aspect ratio of a printed character is the ratio of the height to width of
the character. The Macrojet 2 motherboard is fitted with four dual-in-line
(DIL) switches which set the aspect ratio for each print head. The printed
characters from different size nozzles can therefore be set in the correct
proportion to each other (
see page 2-9 and page 2-10).
The switches relate to the print head sockets as follows:
SW1/SK1 SW2/SK2 SW3/SK3 SW4/SK4.
Sockets and switches are marked on the motherboard.
A print head will not function correctly unless its switches are set to the
correct values. Unused sockets should have their DIL switches set to all
OFF. The settings override any preset links on the print head 37-way plug.
