Water, Dust, & Shock
Resistance
KY-41B is water resistant to IPX5* 1 , IPX8* 2 and dust
resistant to IP5X*

standards if the back cover is
attached. The handset also has shock resistance
compliant with MIL standards*
4 (Kyocera testing
methods).
*1 IPX5: handset retains phone functioning after being
subjected to a jet flow (12.5 L/min) discharged from
a nozzle (inner diameter: 6.3 mm), from all directions
(approximately 3 m from the handset) for 3 minutes
or more.
*2 IPX8: handset experiences no seepage and retains
phone functioning after it is slowly submerged to
depth of 1.5 m in standing tap water at room
temperature, left there for approximately 30 minutes
and then taken out.
*3 IP5X: handset continues to function as a phone and
maintains its safety after being agitated in a test
device with 75 µm or smaller particles for 8 hours.
(Does not completely block ingress of particles.)
*4 MIL standards
Drop testing in which the product is dropped in 26
directions from a height of 1.22 m onto steel plate
conducted in accordance with MIL-STD-810H Method
516.8: Shock-Procedure IV defined by the U.S.
Department of Defense.
* Shock resistance assumes usual everyday use. The
handset may break if subjected to excessive shock
such as being thrown or dropped forcibly. Even if
handset continues to function normally, dropping it
may cause scratches, etc.
Operation is not guaranteed for all conditions.
Warranty does not cover malfunctions resulting from
misuse.
What KY-41B water and dust
resistance allows it to do

You can call without using an umbrella in the rain (for
rainfall of approximately 20 mm per hour).

You can rinse off dirt from the handset. Wash the
handset with low-pressure water flow (6 L/min or less
tap water at room temperature (5°C and 35°C)),
holding it approximately 10 cm below faucet or shower
head. Wash by using only your hands, not a brush or
sponge, with the back cover attached. Drain the
handset before use (→P. 29).

You can use the handset at a poolside. Do not splash
pool water on the handset or submerse the handset in
the pool.
