System Start-up Procedure
To start up the system, do the following:

Switch on the LC and its associated hardware, following the instructions
provided by the manufacturer. Wait for the LC to complete its
initialization before continuing.
Plug in the MSQ and switch it on at the mains.
Press the ON switch located at the rear of the instrument.
Note.
The MSQ vacuum pumps will not start immediately. Refer to the
topic
Pumping Down the MSQ
for information on starting the vacuum
pumps.

Switch on the PC.
Wait until Windows is running and then start Xcalibur.
Pump down the instrument.
Right-click on the MSQ server on the Windows taskbar and choose
Pump
.
Wait for the MSQ to reach high vacuum.
The server light will change from flashing amber to solid amber.
Open the MSQ Tune window (see page 7-2).
Turn on the gas flow.
If the Per Method Parameters are not visible, click on the Show Per
Method Parameters slide bar to display them. Click on the Toggle
Nitrogen Gas button, to switch the nitrogen gas flow On. The button
will turn from gray to green and the text will change from “Off” to
“On.”
Put the instrument into operate.
In the MSQ Tune window, click on the Toggle Operate button. The
button will turn from gray to green and the text will change from
“Off” to “On.”
Set the probe temperature.

In the MSQ Tune window, click on the Probe Temperature setpoint
box and type in the value to heat the probe to.

The MSQ is ready to use as soon as the Probe Temperature
readback value approaches that in the setpoint box. However, for
most stable operation, it is recommended that you wait
approximately 10 minutes for the source to equilibrate.
Turn the LC flow on.
