Theory of Operation
Refer to Figure: Currency Path for the theory of operation.
At the beginning of a dispense transaction, the transport starts to run. The stack of notes in the cassette
is lifted to the picker. If the cassette is low, the magnet in the push plate moves past the supply low sen-
sor on the wiring harness. This type of movement is similar for each channel. The stack empty sensor
sees that there is at least one remaining note. The thumper sensor can see that the push plate is up.
The stack rises to the picker into the spring-loaded thumper roller which blocks the thumper sensor.
The feed lock solenoid in the secure cassette (convenience cassette does not have a solenoid) unlocks
the feed wheel lock and runs the feed wheel one rotation. As the feed wheel and thumper rollers move in
the same direction, they strip a note from the stripper wheels. As the note exits the cassette, it starts to
block the cassette exit sensor in the horizontal transport. Each channel contains its own exit/entry sen-
sor. Channels 1 through 4 also contain dedicated gate sensors in the paper path. The chest horizontal
transport then counts the number of notes to pick. The notes travel along the chest horizontal transport.
At the beginning of a deposit transaction, the cassettes are prepared for note stacking by moving the
push plate down the proper distance needed to allow for notes to enter the cassette. This distance is
based on both the stack guide and stack empty sensors becoming clear during the push plate move-
ment. Once the cassettes are prepared for stacking, the transport the feed wheel start to run continu-
ously in the accept note direction. As the notes are moved along the transport, they are tracked by moni-
toring the exit/entry sensors of each channel and routed to the intended cassette by switching the proper
gate solenoid, allowing the note to be transported into the cassette. As notes are stacked in the cassette,
the push plate is adjusted downward to allow for the proper stacking space to be maintained. At the con-
clusion of the transaction, the transport and feed wheel are stopped, and the push plate is moved up un-
til the stack guide sensor is blocked.
