Glossary

Bill(s)

Refers to bank notes that are stored in the cas-
settes and dispensed from the system.

Consumer

Refers to any person who uses the system.

Device

Refers to the standard and optional equipment
available with the system, such as monitors,print-
ers, and dispensers.

Fascia

Refers to the front area of the system where the
consumer transacts business.

Institution

Refers to any bank or business that might pur-
chase the system.

Maintenance

Refers to the routine tasks performed by an oper-
ator to keep the system operational.

Media

Refers to any type of document (such as a bank
note or coupon, etc.) that is stored in the cas-
settes and dispensed from or deposited into the
system.

Module

Refers to the major electro-mechanical devices
of the system, such as displays, printers, and dis-
pensers.

Operator

Refers to a person who performs routine mainte-
nance, such as replenishing supplies. An opera-
tor may also perform procedures that help deter-
mine the cause of certain problems, such as
jammed paper in the printer.

Safe Enclosure

Refers to the high security enclosure below the
upper chassis. Devices in the safe store the me-
dia dispensed from and deposited into the sys-
tem.

System

Designates the automated teller machine as a
complete unit. The system consists of a safe and
the head area.

T/SOP

The T/SOP or product-specific software supports
you  in  activities  that  are  necessary  for  operating
the  system,  determining  the  system  status  (sta-
tus query), and avoiding incidents through main-
tenance activities. This functionality can be used
parallel  to  normal  operation  without  interrupting
the running application. This ensures a high level
of system availability.

Upper Chassis

Refers to the area behind the fascia and directly
above the safe. The upper chassis houses both
consumer and operator devices (such as print-
ers, card readers, etc.).

User guide lights

Lights that guide the consumer through a trans-
action by calling attention to the next step in the
transaction. These lights can display in colors.
