Remove the fasteners holding the lid on the heat exchanger and pull the lid/coil out of the
exchanger (See Figure 27).

If using straight water, distilled water is recommended. If using a water/antifreeze mix, prepare an
approximately 50/50% mixture of water to antifreeze.
Fill the exchanger approximately 80%
full.
Place the coil assembly in the liquid as far a possible while still being able to observe the liquid
level. If necessary add more liquid until the level is about ½” from the top of the exchanger.
If liquid spillage from the exchanger is a concern (i.e. frequent bumping or tipping) then
run a bead of caulk or gasket compound along the lip of the exchanger before placing the
lid completely on. Keep in mind this will complicate future liquid replacement.
A three point fastener system is used to secure the lid in place, and typically the lid will only go on in
one orientation that will allow alignment of all three holes in the lid with those in the can. Orient the
lid and place it on the can.
Install the screws through the holes and place the nuts on the screws.
Tighten the screws
until snug.
The Heat Exchanger is now ready to use. When in use it should be between the outlet of the
GFS and any downstream hardware such as a pressure regulator, MFC, or molbloc. To
facilitate checking the fluid level, weigh the prepared Heat Exchanger and record the mass
somewhere on the Exchanger (see Section 6.7).
