8.1 OVERVIEW
GFS-2102 is a sophisticated mass flow measuring instrument with software and components that have
advanced features and functions. Before assuming that unexpected behavior is caused by a system
defect or breakdown, the operator should use this manual and other training facilities to become
thoroughly familiar with GFS-2102 operation. This troubleshooting guide is intended as an aid in
identifying the cause of unexpected GFS-2102 behavior and determining whether the behavior is due to
normal operation or an internal or external problem.
Identify the symptom or unexpected behavior you are observing from the SYMPTOM list below.
A PROBABLE CAUSE is provided and a SOLUTION is proposed including references to manual
sections that provide information that may be of assistance.

MFC-CB or molbox1 front panel
display is dim. Screen saver option has been activated. Press any key to resume full screen power,
adjust screen saver activation time if desired.

Communication with an GFS
component cannot be established. Computer and/or component interface not
correctly configured; incorrect or bad
interface cable. Check and correct interface configurations
and cables if necessary. Check interface
configuration in
GFS Tools , [Setup] ,
[Configuration] . Run product COM port test.

GFS component displays <FATAL
ERROR> or <FATAL FAULT>. Component encountered unresolved
internal software conflict. Cycle component power to clear. Record
conditions leading up to the event, including
the numbers displayed when enter is
pressed and report the information to a
DHI
Authorized Service Provider.
GFS component displays <******> or
<OVERFLOW> where a numerical
value should be. Number to be displayed is too large for
allocated space. Usually due to an
erroneous setting or measurement causing
an out of limit high value to be calculated. Check settings that may be causing an out of
limit high measurement and adjust if

The LCM run screen is not the normal
MAIN run screen. You are in the TH PROBE or IR PROBE
run screen.
Operation is normal. Use [Tools],[Remote
Communications] to send the command
“!KEY=15” until the normal run screen is
displayed.
Excessive negative DUT offset that is
more pronounced at lower flows. There is a leak in the flow path or the
device under test itself. Locate and correct leak.
Unable to set flow for DUT and GFS. MFC-CB cable to MFC loose or
disconnected.
Isolation valve not automated.
Calculated setpoint to MFC-CB greater
than 6 volts DC or 20mA or less than 0.2
volts or 4mA.
Manual valve in flow path is closed.
Abort test, flow control, or power down MFC-
CB prior to reconnecting cable to avoid
sudden spike in flow.
In GFS Tools [Setup], [Configuration],
[System] tab, “Automate external isolation
valve” needs to be checked.
Check MFC range in current gas. Setpoints
higher than indicated limits will be rejected
by MFC-CB, setpoints below lower limits
may be insufficient to activate the MFC
valve.
Check to ensure all valves in the flow path
are open.
