Configuring capacity
Add, remove, and configure capacity.
The following topics explain how to add, remove, activate, and inactivate capacity,
activate devices, clear device errors, and set device capacity limits.
You can also add and remove nodes, add and remove devices, and turn on
identification LEDs.
The Dashboard Capacity tile, some Backend table views (such as Capacity Usage,
Configuration), and Property Sheets help you to better understand the amount of
raw capacity and net free capacity currently available in the system.
Adding nodes
If you want to extend a system, or replace a node, use the Add Nodes command,
which is accessed from the System Settings menu at the top right corner of the main
window. Follow the procedures described in the
VxFlex Ready Node Deployment Guide ,
“Deploying the System”.
Note:
Nodes must be in factory state before adding them to a system. To reset a node
to default factory settings, see
Perform a factory reset on page 326.
Remove the node from the system
Remove a node from the VxFlex OS system using the AMS.
Before you begin
Note: During this procedure, a rebalance may take place. You may want to plan
this procedure for a scheduled maintenance window.

On ESXi nodes if the faulty server is up, migrate all VMs except for the Storage
VM to another server. If the server is not up, use the vCenter client to start these
VMs on another server.
Note: If VMware HA is enabled, VMs can migrate without service interruption.

If the node includes an SDC, volumes may be mapped to the node. In this case,
during the removal process you will be alerted to first remove the mapped volume.

All appliance nodes act as an SDS and possibly an SDC. If the server is also an
MDM or a Tie Breaker (TB), you must replace that role with another server before
removing the faulty server. The easiest way to do so is to assign that role to a
standby node with the same role. A standby MDM can replace an MDM and a
standby TB can replace a TB. If there is no other server that can assume these
roles, you will need to add a new server, assign that role to it, and only then
remove the faulty server.
Procedure
1. Log in to the VxFlex OS GUI.
2. In Backend

Storage view, locate the faulty server in the MDM cluster and
make a note of its details:
