Configuring VMware Enhanced Linked Mode

(vSphere 6.0)

Introduction

One of the advantages of a Dell EMC Converged System is turnkey delivery of a pre-configured physical
and logical working system. Converged Systems are physically and logically configured during the
manufacturing process. If you have multiple Converged Systems you can use Enhanced Linked Mode
(ELM) with VMware vSphere 6.0 to log on to a single VMware vCenter and operate, manage and
maintain multiple VMware vCenter servers. Due to the installation prerequisites, VMware vSphere 6.0
ELM must be configured on the customer premises.

If you want to configure ELM, Dell EMC recommends that you contact Dell EMC Professional Services to
have them perform the site analysis, installation, and configuration.

Dell EMC supports the following ELM with VMware vSphere 6.0 configurations:

•

One or two VMware vCenters linked to two Platform Service Controllers (PSCs) in one
Converged System.

•

Two or more VMware vCenters linked to two or more PSCs across two or more Converged
Systems in a data center.

•

Two or more VMware vCenters linked to two or more PSCs across two or more Converged
Systems across two data centers.

The configuration of ELM with VMware vSphere 6.0 is not be addressed in this document. Deployment of
ELM with VMware vSphere 6.0 cannot be reversed. ELM with VMware vSphere 6.0 is managed as a
complete system and should be considered a fault, operational, and maintenance domain. Any ELM with
VMware vSphere 6.0 configuration must be compatible with backup and restore processes for all of the
associated VMware vSphere PSCs (PSC) and VMware vCenter servers in a single VMware vSphere 6.0
Single Sign-On domain.

VMware ELM with VMware vSphere 6.0 use cases

ELM with VMware vSphere 6.0 can be used several situations.

The following use cases are focused on single pane of glass management:

ELM with VMware vSphere provides a single interface to manage multiple VMware vCenter
servers using two shared VMware vSphere PSCs in the same Converged System.

•

ELM with VMware vSphere is used to integrate VMware vCenter Management for two Converged
Systems in the same datacenter. ELM with VMware vSphere 6.0 with two Converged Systems is
