respond within five seconds, the device will power off, but leave features as they
were.
4.11 HEAT
MANAGEMENT
The purpose of heat management is to automatically reduce the heat generated
by the device features in order to allow battery charging to take place when
needed. It does not have a control panel UI to configure it. Instead, its behavior
can be configured through changes to the registry. This choice is made to
disguise the need by our current products for heat management when used in a
Powered Mobile Dock.
Heat management is only engaged when enabled and the device is attached to
a DC power source (dock or USB charger). When engaged, the heat manager
is allowed to disable the following features to reduce heat. The features are
listed in priority order. Items listed first will be disabled before others.
1. Backlight
2. WiFi
3.
Cellular Phone (Data and Voice)
4. GPS
User feedback
When the heat manager has decided to disable one or more features, the
battery status page of the Power control panel applet will display the status
message "Charging Override" to reflect the fact that the heat manager is taking
action. In addition, when the heat manager first begins to disable a feature to
reduce heat, then the following pop-up message will be displayed:
If the user selects "OK", then heat management continues normally and begins
to disable features to reduce heat. If the user selects "Cancel", then no features
are disabled and heat management is disabled until the next change in profile
(device is attached again to a DC power source).
