Connecting a serial mouse
If you need to connect a serial mouse to the PowerStation, you must follow
the procedures defined in this section. However, CTC does not recommend
using a serial mouse for the following reasons:
• A serial mouse will occupy one of your serial ports that could be
used for downloading or data logging.
• You cannot use a serial mouse and the touch screen simultaneous-
ly. The PowerStation will only load the driver for the device that
is listed first in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
• The serial port you use must be configured for RS-232-C commu-
nications. If you use COM2, you may need to change the settings
for this port to use the RS-232-C protocol. See COM2 DIP switch
settings on page 12.
If you still find it necessary to use a serial mouse, follow these steps to
configure the PowerStation:
Note The preferred way to configure the PowerStation is to use the
Compact Flash Drive. However, you must have a PCMCIA card to
do this. If you want to use the Compact Flash Drive to configure the
PowerStation, see Removing and Replacing the Compact Flash
Drive on page 49. If you do not have a PCMCIA card, you will have
to configure the PowerStation using Super User mode by following
the steps listed below.
1. If you will be using COM2, verify that it is configured for RS-232-C
communications. See COM2 DIP switch settings on page 12 to change
the communications protocol for this port.
2. Connect the PowerStation to your development PC. See Connecting to
a PC on page 14 for more information.
3. Run the Interact Project Manager (IPM) on your development PC, and
enter Super User mode. Refer to the IPM User Guide for more infor-
mation about Super User mode.
4. Use IPM Super User mode to copy the file MOUSE.COM from your
development PC to the PowerStation. You can obtain a copy of this
file from Microsoft.
