Care of and Removing the OxyAlert NIRSensor
Although the OxyAlert NIRSensor is a disposable item, it should be treated with proper care to
prevent damage or data corruption.
To remove the sensor from the preamplifier, grip the sensor cable connectors while pulling out.
Do not pull on any cables. Avoid straining or twisting the sensor cable.

Caution:
Use care when removing the sensor from the patient. If difficult to remove, follow your
institution’s patient care protocol to prevent damage to the patient’s skin.

When INVOS™ System is Part of a Medical Monitoring
System
When the INVOS™ system is connected to other equipment, such as a PC, external VGA monitor,
or other medical monitoring system, the whole system shall provide the following items:
•
Within the patient environment, the level of safety equivalent to a medical system in compliance with
IEC 60601-1-1
•
Outside the patient environment, the level of safety equivalent to equipment complying with their
respective IEC or ISO safety standards
Within the patient environment, it is essential to reduce the enclosure leakage currents of the
whole system. The reduction measures may include the following items:
•
Additional protective earthed parts
•
A separation transformer in compliance with IEC 61558:1997 sub clause 5.12
Do not use a multiple portable socket outlet without a separation transformer. If used, the inter-
ruption of its protective earthing may result in enclosure leakage current equal to the sum of the
individual leakage current.
The system integrator is responsible for complying with IEC 60601-1-1 “General Requirements for
Safety”—Collateral Standard “Safety Requirements for Medical Electrical Systems” (see clause
19.201 and table BBB 201).

Note:
The USB port cannot be used for connecting to external equipment.
