PCI Hot Plug Expansion Boards
Compaq ProLiant DL580 servers support PCI Hot Plug technology and
include four PCI Hot Plug expansion slots. The following requirements must
be met in order for complete PCI Hot Plug capability to exist:
■
PCI Hot Plug system hardware must be installed and available in your
server.
■
An operating system with PCI Hot Plug support, such as Windows NT,
Windows 2000, NetWare, and SCO UNIX, must be installed.
■
PCI Hot Plug device drivers provided by operating system vendors, the
Compaq SmartStart and Support Software CD, and some individual
hardware vendors must be installed.
WARNING:
All three requirements must be met in order for your system to be
fully PCI Hot Plug capable. Attempting to perform a hot-plug operation without
complete PCI Hot Plug capability will cause an immediate system crash.
IMPORTANT:
Before adding or removing any PCI Hot Plug devices, be sure to remove
power to the slot using the PCI Hot Plug application. Failure to do so can result in critical
errors. See “PCI Hot Plug Technology,” and the LED location information in Chapter 6,
“PCI Hot Plug Technology.”
For guidelines on performing hot-plug operations to add, replace, or upgrade
PCI Hot Plug expansion boards, see the instructions in Chapter 6,
“PCI Hot Plug Technology.”
