6. COMMISSIONING & OPERATION
ATTENTION!
- Before commissioning the actuator check the pneumatic supplied medium composition and the supplied pressure /
power supplied if any electrical arrangement is present. Always use the product within the scope of intended service
and operating duties according to product label and Data Sheet. Operating media: clean, dry or lubricated compressed
air, max. particle size under 30 µm.
- Ensure all equipment and accessories are under correct specification and properly assembled, adjusted and
connected.
- Before commissioning, make sure previous chapters are thoroughly followed.
- Regional safety instructions should be adhered to.
- It is essential to flush the pneumatic supply pipeline thoroughly to eliminate all the particles and impurities which could
remain.
- Before commissioning a new plant or restarting it after repairs or modification, always ensure that:
- All work has been completed correctly.
- Safety devices/measures have been implemented.
- Keep the surfaces properly cleaned from dust and debris.
- Possible hot surfaces. Wear protective gloves. Avoid standing near the equipment.
- Possible high noise. Wear ear protections. Avoid standing near the equipment
- Potential fluid ejection. Fittings to be properly tightened and sealed. Protect in case of toxic or dangerous media.
Avoid standing near the equipment.
- Prevent uncontrolled movement of the actuator that could hurt operators nearby in case of external accessible
moving parts such as connecting parts or indicators. Avoid standing near the equipment.
- Ensure actuator surface is in good condition and retouch coating protection when needed.
- Once the actuator installed, make an initial opening and closing operation to check its proper operability, without additional
tools.
-Check no leakage between upper and lower chamber. If so, slightly and progresively tight the union bolts until leakage is
eliminated.
- Check no leakage in the pneumatic connections and fittings and retighten as required
- Check local and remote signals work properly, as well as actuator controls and valve.
7. CARE AND MAINTENANCE
The operator must define maintenance and maintenance-intervals to meet requirements.
- Check for body, and air supply connections tightness, and valve smooth operation without additional tools.
ATTENTION!
- Before any maintenance task, make sure previous chapters are thoroughly followed.
- In case of actuator malfunction and cap screws loosened there is risk of internal parts external projection. Stop the
air supply in case of doubt.
- In the event of infrequent use, operate the valve as frequently as possible to avoid deposits of dirt and valve blocking.
- Before disassembling the actuator, note chapters 3, 10 & 12.
- Only carry out maintenance work in the actuator when it has been secured from operation by removing its pneumatic
supply / power supply if any electrical arrangement is present.
- Check the actuator surface and retouch coating protection when needed. If advanced corrosion or erosion is
observed, double check area conditions and replace the actuator or required parts accordingly.
-Special attention and precautions should be observed of the stored energy contained in the spring return pneumatic
actuators. Personal injury maybe happen when disassembly.
Normally closed actuator dismantling for maintenance (see parts list in Chapter
1. Safely disconnect all electric power and supply lines connected to the actuator or accessories.
2.
Disassemble all the accessories of the actuator (solenoid, limit switch box, etc).
3. Remove the cotter pin on the stem extension and the nut on the stem extension.
4.
Loose the retaining allen screw just below the handwheel.
5. Close the valve manually if needed in order to release the spring tension.
6.
Mark the position of the limit opening bolts and loose them at their maximum height in order to release the spring tension.
7.
Loose gradually the spring chamber’s long bolts to release gradually the spring tension and remove them.
8. Turn the handwheel clockwise to release the spring and keep turning it to dismantle the upper part of the actuator.
9. Remove the spring plate and the the spring.
10.
Remove the between chambers’ bolts.
11.
Mark the position of the opening indicator in the lower chamber and remove the upper chamber.
12. Remove the retaining washers and the stem extension.
13.
Remove the diaphragm upper plate, the diaphragm and the bottom suport plate.
14.
Remove the bonnet.
15. Clean the components of the actuator perfectly.
16. Inspect the components of the actuator for wear or damage and replace what is necessary.
