Identification and Warnings of Safety Hazards
In accordance with ANSI MH29.1 the following system of identifying
the severity of the hazards associated with the products is used:
“
DANGER
” Imminently hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will
result in death or serious injury.
“
WARNING
” Potentially hazardous situation that, if not avoided, could
result in death or serious injury.
“
CAUTION
” Potentially hazardous situation that, if not avoided, may
result in minor or moderate injury or property damage.
DANGER
: Ensure that main power supply is off before installing, wir-
ing, or servicing the iW PDS-150 power supply. Failure to adhere to
these instructions will result in death or serious injury.
WARNING
:
iW PDS-150 is rated for installation in environments where
the temperature does not exceed 122˚F (50˚C). To ensure product per-
formance, 4 inches of open space is required around all vented sides
of the unit. Do not obstruct the vent holes on the housing cover.
WARNING
: The iW PDS-150 power supply must be installed by a qual-
ified professional in accordance with NEC and relevant local codes.
Failure to comply can result in death, serious injury, or property dam-
age.
WARNING
: Do not attempt to install or use the iW PDS-150 until you
read and understand the installation instructions and safety labels.
Failure to adhere to these instructions could result in serious injury or
property damage.
WARNING
: Do not use the iW PDS-150 if power cables are damaged.
Doing so can result in death, serious injury, and property damage.
CAUTION
: Do not hot swap. Ensure the power supply is disconnected
from line AC before connecting or disconnecting fixtures. Hot swap-
ping will result in property damage and void the warranty.
CAUTION
: Ensure that there are 4 inches of open space on all vented
sides of power supply. Failure to do so will result in property damage
and void the warranty.
CAUTION
: Do not use with dimmers. Doing so will result in property
damage and void the warranty.
CAUTION
: Do not modify or alter the iW PDS-150. Doing so will void
the warranty.
NOTE
:
The instructions and precautions set forth in this user guide are
not necessarily all-inclusive, all conceivable, or relevant to all applica-
tions as Color Kinetics cannot anticipate all conceivable or unique
situations.
OWNER/USER RESPONSIBILITIES
It is the responsibility of the contractor, installer, purchaser, owner,
and user to install, maintain, and operate the iW PDS-150 in such a
manner as to comply with all state and local laws, ordinances, regula-
tions, and the American national Standard Institute Safety Code.
INSTALLING THE iW PDS-150
The iW PDS-150 shall be installed by a qualified electrician in
accordance with NEC and relevant local codes for power supplies
with Class 2 outputs. A power screwdriver is recommended for
mounting the unit.
INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS
• Zones. iW PDS-150 uses Color Kinetics iW Scene Controller to
control Color Kinetics IntelliWhite dimmable, color temperature
adjustable fixtures by zones. A zone is a grouping of lights attached
to an iW power/data supply which has been set to a specified
zone designation. The zone designation of the iW power/data
supply defines the zone in which the lights reside. Using the
iW Scene Controller, you can set the brightness level and color
temperature, from cool to warm, for all lights within specified zones.
Zones are created by internally designating each iW PDS-150 as
a specific alphanumeric zone, 1-9 or A-F. All fixtures attached to
that iW PDS-150 reside within the designated zone. For example,
in an installation with two iW PDS-150s where the first power/data
supply is set to Zone 1 and the second is set to Zone 2, the lights
attached to the first are in Zone 1 and the lights attached to the
second iW PDS-150 are in Zone 2.
For installations where all lights are controlled in unison, set each
power/data supply in the installation to the same zone designator.
For installations where groups of lights are controlled individually,
set unique zone designators for each power/data supply.
• Location of iW PDS-150 in relationship to lights. Refer to the
user guide for your IntelliWhite fixture to determine the maximum
distance from the fixture to install the iW PDS-150.
NOTE
: Adhere to all state and local wiring codes when making the
leader extension connections.
• Maximum number of fixtures per iW PDS-150. Refer to the user
guide for your IntelliWhite fixtures to determine the maximum
number of fixtures per iW PDS-150 and the maximum number of
fixtures per fuse group.
STEPS TO A SUCCESSFUL INSTALLATION
1. Set the zone(s) for the iW PDS-150s
2. Install the iW PDS-150.
3. Wire the iW PDS-150.
4. Connect the iW Scene Controller
SET THE iW POWER/DATA SUPPLY ZONE
To minimize installation time and effort, set the zone for each iW PDS-
150 prior to installing. Zones can be set or changed after installing
the iW PDS-150; however, any settings or changes made after power
is engaged requires a power cycle to recognize
the change.
Using a small, flat-head screw driver, set the zone for the iW PDS-150
by rotating the zone switch, located Zone Net Out port, to a specific
designator–1 to 9 or A to F. The designator zero (0) is reserved for
future features. See Fig. 1.
INSTALL THE iW PDS-150
• Select the location to mount the housing, keeping the iW PDS-150
within the maximum distance specified for your fixture and control-
ler. Refer to user guides for the cable run information.
NOTE
:
Specifications for specific fixtures supersede this information.
In certain conditions the maximum cable run is less than 60 feet.
• Prior to mounting, punch out the appropriate number of pre-formed
conduit holes.
• Mount the housing to a flat surface using four screws suitable for the
mounting surface. Mounting holes are located at each corner of the
bottom of the housing. (See mounting details, Fig. 1.)
MOUNTING THE POWER/DATA MODULE IN THE HOUSING
• Mount the Power/Data module prior to pulling the wiring into the
housing.
• Mount the power/data module to the stand-off holes in the bottom
of the housing using the provided mounting screws and lock wash-
ers. Mate the slotted hole of the board to the PEM mount referenced
in Fig. 2. (Refer to Fig. 3 for correct orientation.)
WIRING THE iW PDS-150
After mounting the power/data module, you are ready to connect
your IntelliWhite series fixtures.
CONNECTING INTELLIWHITE FIXTURES TO THE IW PDS-150
There are three fuse groups, each having two output terminals on the
power supply. Refer to the user guide for your IntelliWhite fixture for
the maximum number of fixtures per fuse group allowed.
• Connect the fixture cables to the output
terminal connectors.
• Ensure that the red, white and black
wires correspond to the 3-pin terminal
block notations (See Fig. 4.)
• Snap the terminal connector into the
output terminal.
