Procedure for Changing the Press-Mate Battery Charging Circuit
NOTE: THE PROCEDURE SHOULD ONLY BE APPLIED TO MONITORS THAT ARE
BEING USED IN AREAS OF THE HOSPITAL THAT CONTINUOUSLY USE THE MONITOR
ON BATTERY POWER. IF THIS CHANGE IS APPLIED TO THOSE UNITS THAT ARE
NOT CONTINUOUSLY USED ON BATTERY POWER, THE OVERALL 2 YEAR EXPECTED
LIFE MAY BE SHORTENED DUE TO THE CONTINUED CYCLIC CHARGING RATE.
EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
Soldering Iron
#2 Phillips Screw Driver
Wire Strippers
Diagonal Cutters
Glue gun if shrink tubbing not available
Pot Trimmer (small long flatblade screwdriver)
DVM
Razor knife
PARTS REQUIRED:
Solder
1.2” ID shrink tubbing (3” in length)
Hot glue stick if shrink tubbing not available
Small piece of 20 gauge copper wire
4” Zip tie wrap
STEPS: (about 8-10 minutes required)
1.
Remove the rear case of the Press-Mate. Remove the four (S6) silver pan head screws on the rear of
the unit and the S8 bronze pan head screw found on the bottom of the rear case. Lift the case and
disconnect the battery connector from the chassis. Set the rear case aside. Refer to Figure 5.2 on the
following page for assistance.
2.
Cut the retaining zip tie to remove the battery charging circuit from the chassis. Cut the existing shrink
tubbing from the circuit.
Note
: If shrink tubbing is not available- Cut the lower right corner of the battery charging circuit’s shrink
tubing, fold the flap out of the way. Refer to Figure 5.3 on the following page for assistance in the following
steps.
3.
Cut and strip a ½” section of the wire and bend it into a U shape. Solder the wire onto the exposed
diode to create a jumper.
4.
With the use of the hot glue gun, adhere the flap back onto the circuit board.
5.
Connect the DVM onto the battery connector at the rear of the chassis.
6.
With the use of the pot trimming screwdriver, adjust VR1 on the power supply so that
the voltage on the DVM reads between 14.5 and 14.8 VDC.
7.
Connect the battery connector, and reassemble the rear case onto the monitor.
