Test Procedures TROUBLESHOOTING AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
WARNING
• If a fuse is blown, determine the cause of the failure and make necessary repairs before installing a
new fuse. Use the appropriately rated fuse; if a fuse with a higher amp rating is used, damage to the
vehicle electrical system may occur.

TEST PROCEDURE 3 – Ground Cables
See General Warning on page 1-2.
1. Disconnect battery and spark plug wire(s). See Disconnecting the Battery – Gasoline Vehicles on page 1-4.
2. Check the frame ground cable for corrosion, loose connections, and/or damaged terminals (Figure 11-10,
Page 11-17) . Repair or replace as required.
3. Check the negative (–) battery terminal and the two 14-gauge black wires (w39 and w104) for damage. Repair
or replace as required.
4. Check the engine ground wire (w91), located on the side of the engine block, for corrosion, loose connections,
and/or damage
(Figure 11-11, Page 11-17) . Repair or replace as required.
5. Set the multimeter to 200 ohms.
6. Check for continuity between the 6-gauge wire (w133) terminal, disconnected from the negative (–) battery
terminal, and the frame
(Figure 11-12, Page 11-17) .
7. Check for continuity between the 6-gauge wire (w91) terminal, disconnected from the negative (–) battery
terminal, and the engine.
8. The readings obtained in the previous steps should indicate continuity. If any of the readings are incorrect, clean
and tighten wire connections. If the connections are good and the reading is incorrect, repair or replace the wire.
