Description
• Detachable “Remote” unit for measuring at both ends of the cable.
• Indicates whether the cable is complete, broken or short-circuited.
• Indicates whether the cable is straight or crossed.
• Requires no special battery, operates on a 9 V alkaline battery.
• Connections for both TP cable (RJ45) and ISDN cable (RJ11).
Inspecting TP cable (RJ45) and ISDN cable (RJ11)
Warning: Never connect the network tester to a network which is in use and is active;
release the cables before testing them.
1. Connect one end of the cable to the relevant port on the Master Unit and the other
end to the Remote Unit, (detach the detachable Remote and connect it to the other
end of the cable if the cable is already installed)
2. Turn the on/off switch to ON (or S for slow testing)
3. Read the LEDs on the Master Unit.
4. The LEDs (1-8 and G) flash in pairs at the same time on both of the network tester’s
units.
• If the cable is OK the Master and Remote flash in unison: 1 - 1, 2 - 2, 3 - 3 etc.
• If the cable is faulty, none of the LEDs next to that number will light if it is just
that number wire in the cable that is faulty, if the next wire in the cable is whole
the LEDs will flash next to that number on the Master.
• If G flashes during testing, the cable is shielded.
• If the connected cable is crossed, Master and Remote will start flashing out of
sync: 1 - 3, 2 - 4, 3 - 1 etc.
Note!
ISDN cable (RJ11) has 6 wire cores (1 – 6).
TP cable (RJ45) has 8 cores (unshielded cable) or 8 cores + shield (G).
The on/off switch has 3 positions: OFF, ON and S (slow testing).
