interface (Ethernet)
To specify or create an Ethernet interface and enter interface configuration mode, use the
interface (Ethernet)
command in global configuration mode.

Syntax Description
Specifies or creates a Gigabit Ethernet (1000 Mbps) interface.
GigabitEthernet
Specifies or creates a Ten Gigabit Ethernet (10 Gbps) interface.
TenGigE
Physical interface.
Use the
show interfaces
command to see a list of all interfaces
currently configured on the router.

Usage Guidelines
To use this command, you must be in a user group associated with a task group that includes appropriate task
IDs. If the user group assignment is preventing you from using a command, contact your AAA administrator
for assistance.
To specify a physical interface, the notation for the
interface-path-id
is
rack
/
slot
/
module
/
port
. The slash
between values is required as part of the notation. An explanation of each component of the naming notation
is as follows:
•
rack
: Chassis number of the rack.
•
slot
: Physical slot number of the line card.
•
module
: Module number. A physical layer interface module (PLIM) is always 0.
•
port
: Physical port number of the interface.
