2.3. 

Communication protocol installation and setup 

The photometer supports several communication media. 

The USB and the RS232 can be used for local data retrievals, parameter settings and 
instrument firmware updates. The RS232 is optically isolated and can be used as a 
permanent  connection.  The  USB  connection  has  to  be  used  only  as  a  temporary 
connection. 

GPRS FTP can be used to upload data to a server.    

Satellite transmission can be used to transfer data from isolated sites. In that case, the 
user needs to get an account from the satellite manager. 

 RS232 communication 

To  transfer  the  data  from  the  CU  to  a  PC  via  a  RS232  link,  then  follow  the  steps 
described below. 

2.3.1.1.  Software configuration

Plug the RS232 link to the dedicated PC (already done in installation part) 

•

 

Install PhotoGetData on the computer 

The  software  is  provided  on  the  USB  stick  sent  with  the  instrument  and  can  be 
downloaded on Cimel website. 

•

 

Launch PhotoGetData. 

In the 

tools

Choose Serial in the communication type and choose the Port COM associated to 

the photometer. 

 

 

 

Note: USB should be used only for punctual data transfer. The backup on the SD card 
can’t be done when the USB link is plugged.
