Procedure 2-3
To Install 3916 on a Desktop
Step
Action
1
Affix the self-adhesive rubber feet to the bottom of the 3916, near the corners.
2
Place the elastic end of the ESD-preventive wrist strap on your wrist and
connect the metal end to the chassis ground or any unpainted surface of the
chassis.
3
Place the device in the desired location on shelf or tabletop. To ensure that the
fan assembly can provide adequate cooling, always provide a minimum of 3
inches (8 cm) of clearance on the front and back of the chassis. Also ensure that
adequate space is provided for cable management.
4
If using a supplemental ground, connect the ground using the following
instructions:
Note:
A supplemental ground connection is required for 3916 DC Standard
installations.
a.
Route the supplemental ground cable to the installation site.
b.
Insert the ground wire into the customer supplied ground lug. Using a
ratchet crimper, crimp the ground lug.
c.
The ground lug should be a 2 hole lug @ 5//8 centers and with hole size
for #10 or 1/4” screw.
d.
Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the two screws on the left side of the
chassis.
e.
Position the ground lug over this space and use the two screws to secure
the ground lug to the left side of the chassis.

screws.
f.
Connect the other end of the grounding wire to supplemental ground in
accordance with local and national regulations and safety guidelines, and
the grounding procedures used by your company.
g.
Using a digital volt ohm meter, verify that the DC resistance between the
chassis and the supplemental ground source is less than 100 milliohms.
5
Connect the AC or DC power cord to the device using one of the following
procedures:
•
“Installing an AC Power Cable in a Standard Chassis system” on page
2-30
•
“Installing an AC Power Cable in a Mini Chassis system” on page 2-32
•
“Installing a DC Power Cable” on page 2-34
6
Verify that the AC or DC LED (as appropriate) is green and that the PWR LED
on the front of the device is also green.
You have installed the 3916 on a desktop.
