N O T E : Be sure bearing parts have been thoroughly
cleaned and air-dried.
Wheel Stud Replacem ent (Fig. 6)
N O T E : Use a piece o f water pipe or other similar
tool to support the hub while pressing a wheel stud
either in or out.
Installation
1. Pack inner an d o u te r w heel bearings w ith recom m ended
grease (see S ection 0 ) .
2. Place inner bearing in hu b and install new seal assem bly,
tapping in to place w ith soft ham m er.
3. P o sition hub and disc on spindle and install o uter
bearing, pressing it firm ly in to position in hub.
4. Install hub w asher, n u t and c o tte r pin.
5. Install brake caliper an d wheel and tire.

Removal
1. Rem ove n u ts and eye b olts securing upper and low er
shock absorber eyes.
2. W ithdraw shock absorber an d inspect rubber eye bush­
ings. If defective, replace shock absorber assembly.
Installation
Place shock absorber in to position in m ounting brackets.
Install eye b olts an d n u ts and to rq u e as show n in Specifica­
tions Section.
COIL SPRING SUSPENSION ASSEMBLY
C A U T IO N : A ll fro n t suspension attachments are
im portant attaching parts in th at th ey could affect
the performance o f vital components and systems,
and/or could result in major repair expense. They
must be replaced w ith parts o f the same part
numbers or w ith equivalent parts if replacement
becomes necessary. Do not use replacement parts o f
lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values
must be used as specified during reassembly to
assure proper retention o f these parts.
Front Stabilizer Bar
Removal
1. Place vehicle o n hoist and rem ove n u ts and b olts a tta c h ­
ing stabilizer brackets and bushings a t fram e location.
2. Rem ove b rackets an d bushings a t low er co n tro l arm s and
rem ove stabilizer fro m vehicle.
Inspection
Inspect rubber bushings for excessive w ear or aging—replace
w here necessary. Use ru b b er lub rican t w hen installing bushings
over stabilizer bar.
Installation
1. Place stabilizer in position on fram e and install fram e
brackets over bushings. Install nuts an d b olts loosely.
2. Install brackets over bushings at low er co n tro l arm
location. Be sure b rackets are positioned properly over
bushings. Tighten all n u ts an d b olts securely.
3. L ow er vehicle to floor.

Removal
1. Place vehicle on hoist and place ja ck stands u n d er fram e,
allowing co n tro l arm s to hang free.
2. D isconnect shock absorber at low er end.
3. Bolt Tool J-23028 to a suitable jack.
4. Place to o l u n d er cross-shaft so th a t the cross-shaft seats
in th e grooves o f th e to o l. As a safety p recaution install a
chain th ro u g h th e spring and low er co n tro l arm .
5. Raise th e ja c k to rem ove ten sio n o n th e low er co n tro l
arm cross-shaft and rem ove th e tw o “ U ” b o lts securing
the cross-shaft to crossm em ber.

. Lower control arm b y slowly releasing the jack u n til
spring can be rem oved.
