4. Remove the retaining nut from the ball stud to pit
man arm connection and disconnect the control valve
from the pitman arm.
5. Turn the pitman arm to the right clear of the control
valve and unscrew the control valve from the relay
rod on conventional models or from steering con
necting rod on 4 -wheel drive models.

. Remove the control valve from the vehicle.
Installation
1. Install the control valve on the vehicle by reversing
the removal procedure.
2. Reconnect the hydraulic lines, fill the system with
fluid and bleed out air using the procedure outlined
under "Maintenance and Adjustments” . Grease ball
joint.
POWER STEERING GEAR AND CONTROL V A L V E -
40, 50 and 60 Series (Fig. 24)
Removal
1. Mark steering shaft to control valve stub shaft re
lationship and disconnect the steering shaft from the
lower coupling.
2. Remove hoses from valve.
3. Remove pitman arm bolt, nut, washer and pitman
arm.
4. Remove mounting bolts and steering gear.
Installation
1. Install power steering gear on vehicle by reversing
removal procedure.
2. Check steering gear for proper lubricant level.
3. Fill power steering system with fluid and bleed out
air using the procedure outlined under "Maintenance
and Adjustments” .
POWER CYLINDER
Removal
1. Disconnect the two hydraulic lines connected to the
power cylinder and drain fluid into a container.
Do not reuse.

Cl0-20-30 Series
a. Remove cotter pin, nut, retainer and grommet
from power cylinder rod attached to the frame
bracket. Also remove grommet and retainer
from bracket if replacement parts are required.
b. Remove cotter pin, nut and ball stud at relay rod.
40-50-60 Series (Except 9,000 lb. and 11,000 lb.
Front Axles)
a. Loosen dust covers from ball joints at each end of
cylinder.
b. On each end of power cylinder remove the cotter
pin locking the adjusting screw in position and
back out adjusting screw far enough to pull cyl
inder off ball stud.
K10-20 Series
a. Remove cotter pin, nut, retainer and grommet
from power cylinder rod attached to tie rod.
b. Remove cotter pin, nut and ball stud at relay rod.
60
Series with 9,000 lb. or 11,000 lb. Front Axles (Fig. 30)
a. At frame attachment, loosen dust cover, remove
cotter pin locking the adjusting screw in position
and back out adjusting screw sufficiently to pull
cylinder off ball stud.
b. Remove cotter pin, nut and ball stud at pitman
arm.
2. Remove power cylinder from vehicle.
Installation
1. Install the power cylinder on the vehicle by reversing
removal procedures.
NOTE:
When installing power cylinders incor
porating an adjusting screw at the ball stud at
tachment, tighten screw, with ball stud in place
until it bottoms, then back off to nearest hole
and secure with cotter pin.
