Celestron 7-21x40 Electric Zoom Spotting Scope – Model # 52201
Thank you for purchasing a Celestron spotting scope and we hope you will have many years of pleasure with it. To maximize your enjoyment of the spotting scope, please read
these instructions on use and care before using it.
1.
Installing the Battery -
Your spotting scope is supplied with a CR123A lithium battery. Remove the protective plastic cover from the battery prior
to installing it.
Open the battery compartment to install it. Inside the battery compartment is shown the polarity of the battery. The ‘+’ indicator
means that the battery must have the ‘+’ position facing you. If you have the polarity reversed, the zoom buttons will be reversed.
Note:
If you won’t
be using your spotting scope for a long period of time, remove the battery to preserve its life.
2.
Handhold or Tripod Usage -
Because of the light weight of the spotting scope, for most applications you can handhold it for convenience.
However, you can attach the spotting scope to a photo/video tripod – the threaded hole in the bottom of the spotting scope will enable it to be mounted
to the ¼ x 20
screw of the tripod head. Using a tripod will allow much steadier images.
3.
Adjusting Focus -
Focusing is easy. Turn the focus knob clockwise to look at objects further away and turn it counterclockwise to look at objects
closer to you.
4.
Power Zoom Adjustment -
Press the 7x button to begin observing and hold it down so it will rest at the 7x power. The lowest power will give you the brightest image and
widest field of view when observing. To view at a higher power press the 21x button and hold it down until you reach the power you desire (anywhere from 8x to 21x). Higher
powers are used to zoom in closer on the object you are viewing. When zooming to a higher power, you will have to refocus. To change back to a lower power, press down on the
8x button.
Hint:
Eyeglasses worn for nearsightedness should be worn when using the spotting scope as you may not be able to reach a sharp focus at infinity without them.
5.
Set the Rubber Eyecup -
Leave the Rubber Eyecup up if you do not wear eyeglasses but twist it down if you do wear eyeglasses to obtain the maximum field of view. When
done observing, twist the eyecup up for storage.
Now you are ready to use your spotting scope --- enjoy the view!
6.
Care and Cleaning -
Your spotting scope does not need routine maintenance other than making sure that the
objective lens and eyepiece are kept clean. If repairs become necessary, they should be serviced by the
manufacturer or a qualified optical repair company. Dirty objectives and/or eyepieces mean less light transmission
and loss of brightness as well as poor quality views. Keep your optics clean! When not using your spotting scope
store it in the case provided. Avoid touching the glass surfaces but if fingerprints (which contain mild acid) get on
them, they should be cleaned as soon as possible to avoid damaging the coatings. To clean the optical surfaces, we
recommend a lens/optics cleaning kit available at most photo or optical shops and follow the instructions provided
closely. If you have a lot of dust or dirt accumulated, brush it off gently with a camel’s hair brush and/or utilize a can of pressurized air before using the cleaning kit. Alternately,
you could use the Celestron LensPen (# 93575) made especially for cleaning small optics.
Never
attempt to clean your spotting scope internally or try to take it apart!
7. Caution!
Viewing the sun may cause permanent eye damage. Do not view the sun with your spotting scope or even with the naked eye.
8. Problems or Repair -
If warranty problems arise or repairs are necessary, contact the Celestron customer service department if you live in the U.S.A. or Canada. If you live
elsewhere, please contact the Celestron dealer you purchased the spotting scope from or the Celestron distributor in your country (listings on the Celestron website).
