5.5 Leased Line (Private Circuit) Operation

The modem is supplied ready for use on the PSTN. To use it on a leased
line, it is first necessary for a suitably qualified engineer to change some
internal connections and switch positions (see the Appendix entitled
'Technical Guide'). These settings must, of course, be reset before reverting
to PSTN operation.

For leased line operation, one modem must be set to 'originate' mode and
the other to 'answer' mode. By default, the modems are in originate mode.
You must set one to answer mode either with the

(In PSTN mode, originate or answer status is determined automatically
according to whether a modem is originating, or answering a call.)
