7 Operation of Merlin LT
The workflow below shows a basic set-up operation, using the Merlin diagnostic tool software.
1. Apply power to the Merlin LT.
2. Confirm or configure network connections.
3. Confirm or configure the timing protocol in the diagnostic tool software.
4. Start the Merlin LT laser to confirm time-tagging, communications and laser ranges are correct.
5. Close the Merlin diagnostic tool software and connect the Merlin LT to your navigation software.
7.1 Network set-up
The method used to communicate with the Merlin LT is through an Ethernet connection with a PC. The correct
Ethernet parameters need to be established, namely IP (‘Internet Protocol’) address and subnet mask.
Each Merlin LT is first delivered with a pre-set IP address of 192.168.0.201 for the laser.
For first-time installation, communication needs to be correctly established between the PC and Merlin LT. This
requires the PC to have an IP address on the same subnet as the Merlin LT unit.
