Pyxis MedStation 4000 System Console User Guide

Pharmacy configuration

You can customize the contents of some of the pick lists from which you select 
data on the console or station. Thus you can use terminology that is familiar and in 
practice at your facility or pharmacy, or that is based on your policies and 
procedures. For example, your facility might prefer specific terminology for 
security groups, override groups, formulary classifications, discrepancy resolution 
reasons, and other formulary data fields. If your facility does not currently have a 
standard for naming these items, this section describes how and why you can 
establish them.

Customizing a security group name

Each formulary item defined in the console must have one of 10 security groups 
associated with it.

This security group is a tool for controlling which medications your users access 
when you assign them security group privileges. For example, if you want to 
remove a medication, and the medication is assigned to security group A 
(associated with Schedule II drugs), you need access to security group A. The 
system is installed with default security group names, which you can rename to 
customize your system.

To rename the default security group name

1. Select 

System Setup > Pharmacy Configuration > Security Group Names.

The Pharmacy Configuration – Security Group Names dialog box appears 
with the names of the default or existing security group names appear.

If a witness is required for a security group, the words 

[Witn. req. for Waste 

While Remove, Waste, Return, Inv]

 appear to the right of that security group. 

This means a witness is required when wasting, returning, and inventorying 
medications.

NOTE

Override groups are used without a Pharmacist-verified order and based on the 
patient situation or condition.
