Even after the flash fires, ensure that
the main subject does not move until the
shutter sound is finished playing.
• Mount the camera on a tripod or take other measures to keep it
still and prevent camera shake. Additionally, you should set [IS
Mode] to [Off] when using a tripod or other means to hold the
camera still ( = 114).
• The setting screen cannot be accessed by pressing the < r >
button when the flash is lowered. Lift the flash with your finger in
advance.

Adjusting the Flash Exposure Compensation
Just as with regular exposure compensation ( = 93), you can adjust the
flash exposure from –2 to +2 stops, in 1/3-stop increments.
z z Press the < m > button, choose [ X ] in
the menu, and adjust the setting by either
pressing the < q >< r > buttons or turning
the < 5 > dial ( = 46).
X X Once the setting is complete, [ X ] is
displayed.
• When there is a risk of overexposure, the camera automatically adjusts the
shutter speed or aperture value during the flash shots to reduce washed-
out highlights and shoot at optimal exposure. However, you can deactivate
automatic adjustment of the shutter speed and aperture value by accessing
< n > ( = 47) and setting [Safety FE] in [Flash Settings] on the [ 4 ]
tab to [Off].
• You can also configure the flash exposure compensation by accessing
< n > ( = 47) and choosing [Flash Exp. Comp] in [Flash Settings] on
the [
4
] tab.
• You can also access the [Flash Settings] < n > screen when the flash
is up by pressing the <
r
> button and immediately pressing the <
n
>
button.
