returns to the best position to ensure photo quality. If the camera is in an extremely dark
environment, the auto focus uses the last position that was in focus to perform the capture.
The auto focus operation attempts to focus on the most distant object in the field of view. For
example, in a scene with mountains in the background and a tree in the foreground, the camera
focuses on the mountains.
8.5.3 Temperature variations and focus
The focus of the lens can change slightly with large variations in temperature. For example, if a
lens is focused at +35 °C, the lens may be slightly out of focus at –40 °C. The change in focus will
be less noticeable if the focus is adjusted closer to the camera operating temperature.
Some lens options are unavailable when working in the extreme cold. The zoom and focus
function remains at a fixed position at temperatures below –30 °C. Note that these thresholds are
based on camera internal temperatures, which can be several degrees warmer than ambient
outdoor temperate. The camera continues to capture photos and video as set up, but the zoom
and focus features will not function. Check the internal temperature of the camera using the
Dashboard of the web interface (see
Dashboard (p. 39)).
8.5.4 Lens IR cut filter
The CCFC is internally equipped with an IR cut filter. The filter is required to filter out near infrared
light that can have an undesirable effect on the photos. The IR filter is also used for NDVI photos.
9. Cables/wiring
9.1 Power and I/O cable connections
Table 9-1 (p. 21) shows the wiring for the power and I/O cable connector assembly according to
the camera application. The wires can be terminated directly on the control ports of a compatible
data logger (for compatible data loggers see
CCFC compatibility (p. 118)).
The cable comes with wire terminators/connectors attached to the green, yellow, and white wires
(see the following figure). Use the wire terminators/connectors to individually isolate unused
wires.
