The CCFC may produce video files that exceed 30 MB. Sending such a large file to a data logger
using PakBus® can be problematic. For this reason, the CCFC does not send files using PakBus®
that are larger than 2 MB.
The camera is a PakBus® leaf node and is not capable of performing routing. However, the CCFC
can communicate with devices several hops away on the PakBus® network.
17.1 Send using PakBus®: concurrent
PakBus® communications
PakBus® allows the camera to download photos to a data logger simultaneously with other data
logger communications. Communications take longer if the data logger is simultaneously
communicating with multiple devices.
Set the system timing to avoid photo transfers when other communications are scheduled. For
example, longer connect times on long distance telephone connections can be avoided by
scheduling photo transfers from the camera to the data logger outside the scheduled data
collection time. If a station is called on the hour to retrieve data, photo acquisitions could be
initiated before the scheduled call (15 minutes prior) to shorten the connect times.
17.2 Send via PakBus®: PakBus® graph
operations
The CCFC supports configuration using PakBus® Graph over the serial port. A data logger or
other PakBus® relay device is required to interface PakBus® Graph to the camera.
17.2.1 Data logger settings
The data logger must be configured as a router (Is Router set to true) and the camera PakBus®
address must be in the list of allowed neighbors for the data logger port used. The camera and
the data logger must have the same baud rate to communicate properly. See
Data logger COM
port (control port) communications (p. 121) for more details on setting up a data logger.
17.2.2 Discovery
After starting the PakBus® graph, the camera may not be visible immediately. To discover the
camera, right click the green box labeled [4094] in the graph and click Search for Neighbours to
open the Search for Neighbours dialog box. Press Start and the graph should display all devices
in the PakBus® network.
