DIAGNOSTICS
The starter motor does not turn.
With the gears in neutral, turn the ig-
nition switch to the “ON” position with
the engine kill switch on “RUN”.
Listen for the click of the starter relay
when the starter button is pressed.
Pull in the clutch lever when the
starter button is pressed.
The click is not heard
Measure the voltage of the starter
relay at the relay connectors (be-
tween G/O + and B/Br -) when the
starter button is pressed.
Voltage present
Check the starter relay.
Correct
Check the side stand switch.
The click
is heard
No voltage
Incorrect
• Defective ignition switch.
• Defective engine kill switch.
• Defective gearchange position switch.
• Defective diode.
• Defective injection relay.
• Defective starter switch.
• Defective clutch lever position switch.
• Connector contacts poor or defective.
• Wiring circuit open.
• Defective starter relay.
The engine does not turn even
if the starter motor turns.
• Defective starter gear.
Check the to see that the starter motor turns
by connecting the terminal of the starter
motor directly to the + terminal of the bat-
tery (do not use a thin lead because the
flow of current is high).

• Defective starter motor.
• Defective starter relay.
• Starter motor lead loose or dis-
connected.
• Starter relay contacts poor or defective.
With the side stand raised, the starter motor turns when the gearchange is in neutral but does not turn when the
gear is inserted.

• Defective side stand switch.
• Wiring circuit open.
• Connector contacts poor or defective.
