General checks before and during operation
7.3
Become familiar with the work environment before starting to work. Check the machine for
exterior and visible defects at least once a day (visual inspection). Adhere to the inspection and
maintenance intervals specified in chapter 8
“Maintenance and care” before starting to work.
Before switching the machine on and throughout operation, pay constant attention to any
irregularities in the entire area of the machine. When the control system and the machine are
switched on, the following symptoms may point to irregularities:
increased noise or irregular/unusual sounds.
unusual odor.
formation of smoke.
spots caused by operating fluids (oil, grease) on the machine or on the ground.
leaks in the hydraulic system.
drop in performance during operation.
At the first signs of any of these systems, shut down the machine immediately. If necessary,
consult a specialty workshop for a more in-depth assessment of the technical condition.
The specialty workshop must decide whether operation can resume without any further
limitations to the functionality of the machine. If a failure is likely on account of the detected
damage, repairs must be initiated immediately.
