the back up alarm and installation should meet the requirements of sae J1446 (may 89),
“on-machine alarm test & evaluation Procedure for Construction & General Purpose
industrial machinery” and all other applicable codes and guidelines. Vehicles that are oper-
ated in very loud environments may require an alarm which is louder than what is speci-
fied in sae J1446 (may 89). the alarm selected for your vehicle should be louder than the
loudest job site at which the vehicle is used. if the audibility of the alarm is in question, the
driver of the vehicle should get assistance before backing.
Installation Instructions
the back-up alarm should be mounted about 48” from the ground with the sound opening
facing the rear of the vehicle. do not mount the alarm with the sound opening facing up or
down. the back-up alarm should be connected to a fused back-up lamp circuit or a sepa-
rate fused “back-up” switched circuit.

Find a mounting position near the rear of the vehicle that will keep the back-up alarm
protected from debris impact, and adverse weather conditions while maintaining an clear
sound path towards the rear of the vehicle.
