For proper installation, the rear wheel and shock springs must be
removed. If you do not have access to a stand capable of safely
supporting/lifting the motorcycle so that the wheel can be removed, as
well as a tool capable of removing/replacing the shock spring, please
allow your dealer to assist you.

This kit is designed to work with Harley-Davidson OEM shocks (12.5”),
swingarm, frame, and OEM tire size. DO NOT USE WITH LOWERED
SHOCKS!!!

The operator must use extreme caution when operating a modified
motorcycle, particularly while familiarizing himself with its altered handling
characteristics.
n
Check your motorcycle for proper parking lean angle AFTER installation of
this kit. Your sidestand may require modification.
n
Follow all instructions to achieve proper clearance.
n
Owners of any model using a lowering kit with saddlebags (hard or soft)
must check for sufficient shock-to-bag clearance. Some models may
require modifications to the bag mounts when the lowering kit is installed.
n
Enclosed sticker must be applied to a visible area of any motorcycle on
which the Burly Brand lowering kit has been installed in order to inform
potential riders that the bike has been modified.

Read all the instructions carefully before installing this kit on your
motorcycle. Use your Harley-Davidson manual as a reference while
installing this kit.
n
Support and lift the motorcycle securely so the rear wheel is just off
the ground and able to spin with light brake drag. The balance point is
between the engine and transmission.
n
Remove rear exhaust muffler to gain access to axle/axle nut. Remove
drive belt guard. Remove rear wheel and slide brake caliper assembly
off swingarm.
n
Remove shocks. Install 3/4” Travel Limiters following the guidelines
below. Refer to drawing as for assistance. (See page two*)
a) To remove shock springs, compress spring & remove spring retainer
that holds & locates spring on shock.
b) Twisting the snap ring slightly, slip the snap ring onto shock shaft
between shock body and rubber bumper.
c) Install travel limiter halves onto shock shaft. Using snap ring pliers,
install snap ring into groove of travel limiter.
d) Re-install shock springs.*
n
Install Lowering Kit Bracket to the right side of swingarm, through hole
in stock shock mount. Use 1/2”-20x1.25” long bolt (provided) from
backside of swingarm mount. secure with 1/2”-20 Nylock nut
(provided). Torque to 30 foot pounds. Repeat process on the left side
Lowering Kit Bracket.
n
Place 1/2”-20x3” bolt (provided) in
right
side Lowering Kit Bracket
hole (this bolt is for new shock position). Place 1/2”-20x2.5” bolt
(provided) in
left
side Lowering Kit Bracket hole (this bolt is for new
shock position).
n
Remove the right side upper shock stud. Install the remaining ¼”
spacer (provided) and remount the stud. The right shock mount
requires this spacer for proper alignment.
n
Re-install both modified shocks onto their new mounting positions
(stock Acorn nuts and washers are retained on lower mounts). Torque
top/bottom nuts/bolts to 25 foot pounds.
n
Re-install rear wheel & brake caliper assembly. Refer to Harley
manual for proper belt alignment and axle/nut torque.
n
Install belt guard, being sure to check for proper clearance at fender
to belt guard. Trim belt guard if necessary.
